- What Is the 50-30-20 Budget Rule for Baltimore Weddings?
Pond View Ceremony site in Westminster, Maryland Couples in general are becoming budget conscious in this economy, and at Montagu Meadows we certainly understand. Couples are waiting longer to get married due to careers, financial stability, changing social norms, and prioritizing personal growth and partner compatibility. When the time is right, couples start planning their wedding with 73% of couples saying staying in budget is their top concern. This blog post explains the 50-30-20 percent rule when it comes to wedding budgets. We hope this helps budget conscious engaged couples when they begin their wedding planning process. Q: What does the 50-30-20 rule mean when planning a wedding in Westminster, MD? The 50-30-20 rule is a simple budgeting guideline that helps couples divide their wedding budget into three clear categories: must-haves, nice-to-haves, and extras. It keeps spending balanced while still allowing room for personality and flexibility. Q: How does the 50% portion of the wedding budget work? The first 50% of your wedding budget should go toward your essential elements. These are the things that make the wedding possible. These typically Wedding decor and signage at a Carroll County, Maryland Wedding Venue include: • Wedding venue • Wedding Catering and bar service • Wedding Rentals (tables, chairs, linens) if needed-this is included with a lot of wedding venues • Required staffing or service fees These are non-negotiables and usually take up the largest portion of a wedding budget. Q: How does Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue located in Westminster, MD help control the 50% essentials portion? Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue includes many of the elements couples would otherwise need to rent separately. This means fewer vendors, fewer invoices, and more predictable costs. Features like: • A three-day rental • Multiple wedding ceremony sites - indoors and outdoors • On-site parking with attendants • Water and countryside views - pond and stream • Free Use of Farmhouse Tables, Chairs, Vintage Furniture and Wedding Arbors • Free use of Wedding Décor from the Something Borrowed Room • Two getting ready suites included help couples maximize their essentials budget without sacrificing quality. Q: What falls under the 30% wedding category? The next 30% is for personal priorities and upgrades. This is where couples customize their day. Common examples include: • Photography and videography • Floral design and décor • Entertainment (DJ or band) • Wedding attire and beauty This category allows you to invest in what matters most to you as a couple. Rustic Wedding Decor at this Westminster, Maryland Wedding Venue Q: What should the remaining 20% of your wedding budget be used for? The final 20% is reserved for extras and unexpected costs, such as: • Favors and signage • Specialty desserts or late-night snacks • Transportation or accommodations • Budget buffers for price increases or last-minute additions Having this cushion helps reduce stress as plans evolve. Q: Is the 50-30-20 rule realistic for all weddings? Yes but it’s a guideline, not a rulebook. Every couple’s priorities are different. Some may spend more on photography and less on décor, or invest heavily in the venue to simplify everything else. The goal is balance, not perfection. Q: How can couples use this rule successfully with wedding planning? Start with your total budget, divide it into these three categories, then adjust based on your priorities. Couples who choose venues that include rentals, multiple ceremony spaces, or extended access often find it easier to stay within the 50% essentials range. This will leave more room for meaningful details. Q: What’s the biggest benefit of the 50-30-20 rule when it comes to your budget? Beautiful sunsets at this country wedding venue Clarity. - Navigating the Holidays While Engaged: How to Celebrate, Connect, and Stay Stress-Free in Westminster, MD
Keith proposes to Kim on a birthday cruise over the holidays The holidays are a special time of year with family gatherings, twinkling lights, festive parties and family traditions that bring people closer together. Add an engagement to the mix, and the joy becomes even greater. But with that joy can also come new expectations, extra planning, and the pressure of blending families and traditions. Navigating the holidays while engaged doesn’t have to feel overwhelming; in fact, it can become one of the most memorable seasons of your life. So always remember to have a positive attitude and enjoy the experiences as a newly engaged couple. Here’s your guide to making the most of the holidays while protecting your peace, strengthening your relationship, and enjoying the holiday festivities. 1. Celebrate the Present Moment Getting engaged during the holiday season gives you a built-in opportunity to celebrate. It is the time of the year where everyone is celebrating. Before the whirlwind of planning begins, carve out time for the two of you When you realize this isn't just a moment, it's the beginning of forever! to simply enjoy being engaged. Light a fire, make your favorite warm drinks, and relive the proposal together. Talk about your hopes for this next chapter. These quiet, intimate moments are what you’ll remember long after the decorations come down. And if you haven’t had the chance yet, plan a small celebration just the two of you or with your closest people like a Friendsgiving or a game night. It doesn’t need to be fancy. A cozy dinner, a sparkling toast, or an evening out at your favorite holiday event can make the moment feel special and real. 2. Share the Engagement News in a Way That Feels Right There’s something special about announcing your engagement during the holidays, when everyone is already gathered, full of cheer and ready to have a fun time. But remember, you get to choose how and when you share your news. This is about you as a couple. You can share the news at a holiday party, under the mistletoe in front of friends and family, at a Holiday parade, or at a holiday light display/show. Some couples love a big reveal at a family gathering; others prefer sending a photo after the moment. Either option is perfectly okay. If you want privacy during the announcement, tell your immediate family first and allow the news to spread naturally. Or, if you’re hoping for that big reaction, capture it on video and post it on social media. Just make sure you’re on the same page with your partner before sharing widely, especially on social media. This is something that you’ll treasure forever. 3. Blend Family Traditions with Grace Family traditions can include your animals One of the biggest challenges engaged couples face during the holidays is navigating family traditions. Your family may have long-standing ways of celebrating, and your partner’s may look completely different. It’s the first glimpse of what blending families will look like once you’re married. Have an honest conversation early: • Which holiday events are most important to each of you? • Do travel schedules need to be flexible? • Are there traditions you want to start together as a couple? If you can’t be in two places at once, alternate years or split the holiday in a way that actually works (not the way you think you “should” do it). Families are usually more understanding when things are explained with kindness. They will understand that you can not be at two places at once. And don’t forget to create new traditions together. Whether it’s decorating your tree with ornaments from places you’ve traveled, riding your horses on a beautiful trail or baking cookies on Christmas Eve, these little rituals will become the foundation of your future family. 4. Set Wedding Boundaries Early (“Yes,” “No,” and “Not This Year”) The winter holidays can bring a lot of opinions about your engagement, your venue, your wedding date, and even your guest list. While people mean well, their excitement can sometimes cross into pressure. This is where boundaries become your best friend. It’s okay to say: • “We aren’t discussing wedding planning until after the holidays.” • “We appreciate your input; we’ll keep it in mind.” • “We already have plans for Christmas, but we’d love to stop by another time. What other day works for you?” You don’t have to defend your decisions. A simple, warm explanation is enough. Change can difficult for some, but in time close family and friends will adjust. 5. Don’t Let Wedding Planning Overshadow the Holiday Season Once you’re engaged, it’s tempting to jump into full wedding-planning mode. But the holidays are a special time, and if you’re not careful, planning can take over everything. Give yourselves permission to enjoy the season without discussing floral budgets, seating charts, or color palettes every day. It’s okay to wait to sit down as a couple to discuss your wedding vision and venues you would visit. And don't forget to schedule a tour at Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue located in Westminster, Maryland. A good rule: designate one or two “wedding talk” days per week until January. That way, you can still get things done without turning the holidays into a planning marathon. 6. Capture the Holiday Spirit—Take Photos Together Whether you’re getting professional engagement photos or simply snapping pictures during holiday outings, this season is the perfect backdrop. Snowfall, twinkling lights, Christmas trees, decorated streets, holiday activities and cozy outfits create naturally romantic photo opportunities. These moments will become cherished memories, marking the season you stepped into forever together. 7. Anchor Yourselves in Gratitude - Think Positive Thoughts Amid the chaos, take time to reflect on what truly matters. Gratitude naturally lowers stress and strengthens your bond. You might try: • Sharing one thing you’re grateful for each night. • Writing a letter to each other to open next holiday season. • Taking a quiet walk together on a beautiful evening. The holidays are the perfect time to focus on the love, partnership, and commitment that brought you to this moment. A Holiday Season You’ll Always Remember Navigating the holidays while engaged is about balance, honoring your traditions, respecting each other’s families, setting boundaries, and savoring every moment. Years from now, you’ll look back on this season with warm hearts, remembering how it felt to be thinking about your exciting future. So hold hands, slow down, and enjoy each other. This is only the beginning of the beautiful life you’re building together. - A High School Friendship Turned Love Story: Brittany & Seth’s Timeless Westminster, MD Wedding
Garden wedding venue located in Westminster, MD Well, it’s November and the leaves have fallen along with morning frosts that greet us most mornings. But a month ago, Brittany and Seth got married on a beautiful Fall Day at Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue. On October 18, 2025, the sun was shining, the leaves were changing, and lots of love was in the air. This was the day Brittany and Seth waited for. Some love stories start early and only grow stronger with time and that’s exactly the case for Brittany and Seth. The two first met as students at Francis Scott Key High School , where Seth played basketball and Brittany was a cheerleader. Though life took them in different directions after graduation, fate had other plans. Years later, they reconnected through social media, and the friendship that started in high school quickly reignited into a lasting love. Their wedding day at Montagu Meadows was the perfect reflection of their journey. It was a day filled with earthy elegance, personal touches, and so much joy shared with family and friends. A Peaceful Morning at the Bridal Cottage The bridal suite came alive early that morning as Brittany and her bridesmaids arrived at 9 a.m. for a relaxed and joyful start to the day. Illuminate by Peak worked their magic with makeup, and Hair by Brittany styled the bridal party with effortless beauty. Before getting dressed, Brittany presented Yvonne, her mother-in-law with a beautiful jewelry tray. This gift was a thoughtful, sentimental gift that set the tone for the heartfelt moments to come. The wedding color palette was a romantic mix of terracotta and earthy tones, Barn Wedding Venue located south of Gettysburg, PA complementing the rustic elegance of the barn and surrounding countryside. Brittany’s gown from Posh Bridal , designed by Essence of Australia, was a true showstopper. The dress was classic, romantic, and timeless and brought her hubby to be to tears. Her bridesmaids looked stunning in dresses from Azazie , perfectly coordinated in warm tones that reflected the natural setting of Montagu Meadows. Meanwhile, the groom and groomsmen arrived around noon to enjoy some down time shooting pool, playing corn hole and sharing laughs before the Groomsman before the wedding ceremony festivities began. Seth and the fathers wore jackets from Country View Tux , while the groomsmen sported Wrangler jeans and navy button-down shirts, blending casual charm with country sophistication. First Looks & a Scenic Wedding Ceremony at Pond View Before the wedding ceremony, Brittany shared two emotional first looks: one with her father, David, and another with her soon-to-be husband, Seth. Both moments were filled with love, happy tears, and anticipation. The ceremony took place at the pond-view ceremony site, framed by Montagu Beautiful Fall Wedding Day in Westminster, MD Meadows’ signature wooden arch, beautifully adorned with Hiddenvale florals and surrounded by stunning flower gardens. Hiddenvale also designed the stunning bouquets, floral arrangements on whiskey barrels, and lush greenery garlands for the farmhouse tables in the barn. A particularly touching detail was the In Memory chair created to honor Brittany’s late mother. With a framed photo, a heartfelt memorial sign, and a white satin bow, the display was a beautiful tribute that brought both tears and comfort to those who knew her spirit was present. Burnside Events provided the ceremony music, setting the perfect tone for Wedding processional with the dip Brittany’s walk down the aisle. The couple’s officiant, Married With Love by Lauren , led a heartfelt ceremony filled with laughter, love, humor and authenticity. Lauren from Best Day Events also thoughtfully prepared a charming cart filled with flower petals for guests to toss as Brittany and Seth made their joyful recessional. A unity sand display, set atop of one of the whiskey barrels, symbolized their bond as they privately blended their sands together before the ceremony. Cocktail Hour Fun After the wedding ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour with delicious drinks and appetizers catered by CarterQue out of Mt. Airy, Maryland who also handled bartending for the evening. Guests sipped on a fun variety of beverages from local beers and High Noons to Surface Vodka Lemonade and the ever-popular Devil’s Backbone Orange Crushes. Brittany and Seth added playful and personal touches throughout the cocktail space. Guests were invited to complete a custom crossword puzzle called “Sip & Solve”, a creative and interactive twist that had everyone smiling. Cornhole boards were also set up for guests to enjoy under the open sky which provided the perfect mix of fun and relaxation. Wedding Reception in the Historic Barn As the sun dipped behind the rolling hills, the celebration moved into the Sweetheart table in the Historic Barn historic 1850s barn, where warm lights and romantic details awaited. Best Day Events coordinated the day flawlessly, and Lauren took care of the beautiful setup from the floral touches to the sentimental details that made the day uniquely Brittany and Seths. The farmhouse tables featured black candlesticks borrowed from the Something Borrowed room at Montagu Meadows, wooden slabs handmade by the groom, velvet napkins, and table numbers showcasing photos of the couple each topped with a touch of rustic charm using deer antlers. Lively bridal party introductions and special dances which included the couple’s first dance as husband and wife, Brittany with her father, and Seth with his mother. Additionally, the Reverse Anniversary Dance got everyone on their feet, starting with the longest-married couple leading the way. This was a beautiful reminder of the love stories that inspire the next generation. Dinner followed the special dances and was catered by CarterQue. As the night continued, the barn glowed with glow sticks and sunglasses, and DJ Burnside kept the dance floor packed until the very end. Guests celebrated, laughed, and danced the night away which was a perfect ending to a perfect day. Capturing the Memories Photography by Samyi Bierman Every moment of the day was beautifully documented by Samyi Bierman Photography and Bill Foster Film, ensuring Brittany and Seth will be able to relive their wedding day for years to come. Even Christina, the owner of Montagu Meadows got involved and captured some candid content for the couple. From the quiet moments to the wild dance floor celebrations, their Montagu Meadows wedding was a day that truly reflected who they are: joyful, grounded, and deeply in love. Congratulations, Brittany and Seth! Your story is one that began in high school, but it’s clear that this is just the start of your forever. - A Joyful Celebration: Sarah & Joey’s Wedding in Westminster, Maryland on June 14
Sarah and Joey - married at Montagu Meadows, a Maryland Barn Wedding Venue Hi this is Christina, the owner of Montagu Meadows, a Maryland barn wedding venue located in Westminster, Maryland. I was so happy and excited the day I got a call from Sarah and Joey saying they wanted to get married at Montagu Meadows wedding venue. Both Sarah and Joey had graduated from Westminster High School where I used to teach and was also a school counselor. The other connection I had with them was they both earned their undergraduate degrees from McDaniel College where I earned my master’s degree. We hit it off from the beginning. Then came their wedding. From the moment the music started, it was clear Sarah and Joey’s June 14th wedding at Montagu Meadows was going to be a party to remember. The dance floor never emptied, and the energy in the barn matched the love and joy this couple shared. But before the dancing began, their beautiful story unfolded in a way that was deeply personal and full of heart. High School Acquaintances to College Sweethearts Sarah and Joey’s love story began in Westminster, Maryland. They both Outside wedding venue located in Westminster, Maryland attended Westminster High School but didn’t start dating until they reconnected at McDaniel College. Their first official date? Sweet Frog in Westminster. A sweet and simple start to something so much bigger. About a year and a half later, Joey proposed on the front porch of the home they had just purchased together. That front porch marked the beginning of a new chapter in their life, which they now share with their two adorable labradoodles, Maui and Mo. In addition to building a home together, Sarah and Joey also share a passion for coaching. They both coach JV girls’ basketball at Westminster High School. - A Beautiful Autumn Celebration near Baltimore, Maryland For Colleen and David
Colleen enjoying the morning in the Bridal Suite in Westminster, MD October is such a beautiful time of year in the state of Maryland and at Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue. And Colleen and David's marriage on October 11, 2025, surrounded by their closest family and friends did not disappoint. Their day was filled with lots of love, storytelling and of course a packed dance floor. Their love story began years ago when they met working together at Subway. What started as a workplace friendship blossomed into something truly special. Bachelorette and Bachelor Party Before the big day, Colleen celebrated her bachelorette party in Virginia Beach with her best friends, while David headed to the Finger Lakes with his groomsmen. Both friend groups had a great time. The Wedding Day Their wedding day was beautifully coordinated and decorated by Best Day Events owned by Lauren, who brought the couple’s fall-inspired vision to life. The color palette of sage green with touches of burnt orange created a warm and elegant atmosphere. Much of the décor came from Montagu Meadows’ own Bridal Party enjoying time in the orchard Something Borrowed Room, where Best Day Events combined amber votives, ivory cheesecloth runners, rustic lanterns, eucalyptus garlands, and wooden table numbers to create timeless tablescapes. The sweetheart table was highlighted with gold candlesticks, adding a romantic glow as the couple shared their first meal as husband and wife. The bridesmaids looked lovely in sage green dresses from Azazie , while the bride stunned in her gown from Lily’s Bridal & Prom . The groom wore a dark gray suit, and his groomsmen complemented him in lighter gray suits from The Black Tux . Their ceremony took place at the Pond View, officiated by Robin, with the pond and autumn colors setting a perfect natural backdrop. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal and drinks provided by Festive Board Catering & Bartending, followed by a night of laughter and dancing thanks to Great Scott Productions , who kept the dance floor packed until the very end. A close friend of the couple made their wedding cake. This was just one of the sweet personal touches that reflected their deep connections with loved ones. Wedding Ceremony on Pond View located in Carroll County, MD And just when guests thought the evening couldn’t get any better, they were surprised with a late-night treat from Miss Twist Ice Cream , a fun and memorable way to end the night! Hair and makeup were beautifully done by Jackie’s Design , and Salt and Light Photography perfectly captured every detail and emotion of the day with their signature warm, artistic style. Check out some FAQ about RSVP etiquette below: Q: As a guest am I invited with a plus one? A: The best way to know is to check the names listed on the wedding invitation that was sent to you by mail or email. If your envelope or RSVP card includes your name and a guest’s name (or says “and guest”), then a plus one is included. If only your name appears, the couple kindly requesting that you attend solo. A: Your invitation will be your best guide. • If children are invited, their names will typically be listed on the envelope or included on the RSVP card (for example: “The Jones Family” or “John, Sarah, and Isla”). • If the invitation is addressed only to adults, it means the couple has chosen to make their celebration adults-only or they have limited the number of children attending.
