May is the start of wedding season for Montagu Meadows and our first wedding of the year did not disappoint. Melissa and Ed's love story began in the most unexpected way. It all started with a match on the Facebook Dating application for their first date (did you know that 27% couples meet on a dating app?). After communicating through the app, they decided to meet at Mother’s North Grille. Melissa even left her nephew’s birthday party a little early to meet Ed which was unusual for her. Family is very important to her. From that very first evening together, the connection was undeniable, and their relationship quickly blossomed into a beautiful journey filled with love.
A Wedding Proposal Filled With Meaning
Ed’s proposal was heartfelt, emotional, and full of meaningful signs. Although he was not planning to propose that particular day, Melissa’s engagement ring arrived earlier than expected. To Ed, it felt like a sign he should not wait any longer.
The day also happened to be Melissa’s father’s birthday which was the second sign. Melissa's father had passed away in 2021 before she met Ed, making the moment especially emotional and meaningful. Melissa had a close relationship with her father and Ed believed it was her father’s way of giving his blessing. Before proposing, Ed quickly called Melissa’s mother and his daughter to ask for their approval. Later that evening, while celebrating her father’s birthday over dinner, Ed asked Melissa to marry him surrounded by family.
A Perfect Spring Wedding Weekend in Westminster, Maryland
Melissa and Ed celebrated their wedding weekend at the breathtaking Montagu Meadows, one of the most charming barn wedding venues in Westminster, Maryland. Their Friday night rehearsal was coordinated by Lauren Mohlhenrich from Best Day Events, helping create a relaxed and organized start to the weekend. Family and friends gathered afterward for the rehearsal dinner at Greenmount Station in Hampstead, Maryland.
The weather could not have been more perfect for a spring orchard wedding ceremony. With temperatures around 80 degrees, a gentle breeze, and sunshine filtering through the large trees in the orchard, guests enjoyed a comfortable shaded ceremony space surrounded by natural beauty.
An Orchard Wedding Ceremony Full of Family and Love
The ceremony took place in the orchard which consisted of seven grand Chestnut and hickory tress at Montagu Meadows, creating a romantic outdoor setting for Melissa and Ed to exchange vows. Melissa’s cousin, Michelle Murray, officiated the ceremony with the perfect balance of heartfelt emotion and humor, making guests laugh and cry throughout the ceremony.
Family was at the center of the day. Edward’s children played an important role throughout the entire wedding celebration, including participating in a meaningful sand ceremony that symbolized the blending of their families.
Melissa looked stunning walking down the aisle in her David's bridal gown while the bridesmaids wore beautiful Azazie Aqua and Ice Blue dresses. Her maid of honor was her best friend, Megan, while Ed’s father proudly stood beside him as best man. The groomsmen wore classic gray suits from Men’s Wearhouse.
One of the most touching details of the wedding was Melissa’s gown alterations completed by Susan Peterson, who lovingly added a piece of Melissa’s father’s do-rag into her dress as a special tribute. This meant a lot to Melissa to have a part of her father by her side.
Wedding Reception Inside the Historic Bank Barn located in Westminster, Maryland
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the patio in front of the barn before moving inside for dinner and dancing. The rustic barn reception perfectly blended elegance with relaxed Maryland countryside charm.
Lauren from Best Day Events helped bring Melissa’s wedding vision to life by coordinating décor pieces including wooden table numbers, white chiffon runners, glass cylinders, shabby chic votives, dessert stands, and a card box. Melissa also rented florals from Something Borrowed Blooms, creating a timeless romantic atmosphere throughout the venue.
Guests signed a unique wooden tree guest book by placing signed leaves onto the display, creating a keepsake the couple will treasure forever.
As the evening continued, the dance floor was active with family and friends celebrating together. Melissa and Ed shared their romantic first dance before Melissa danced with her mother and Ed shared a special dance with his daughter. The warm welcome speech from the bride and groom made guests feel like part of the family from the very beginning.

A Florida Honeymoon
The newlyweds headed to Orlando, Florida the following Sunday for their honeymoon. Their trip includes cheering on the Baltimore Orioles during a game in Tampa and spending time exploring all three parks at Universal Orlando Resort.
