- How to Create a Stunning Welcome Sign for a Westminster, Maryland Wedding: A Step-by-Step Guide
Westminster, Maryland Barn Wedding Venue There are so many items to think about when planning your wedding. As the owner of Montagu Meadows, a wedding venue located in Westminster, Maryland, I encourage all couples to discuss what is important to them on their wedding day. One of the top priorities for most wedding couples is making sure all their wedding guests feel welcomed and comfortable. A welcome sign is just one of the ways to do this. It is the first thing guests see when they arrive at a wedding or another special event. Whether for a wedding, a business entrance, or a home, a stunning welcome sign sets the tone, making visitors feel invited and giving them a glimpse of what to expect. Creating a beautiful and effective welcome sign involves more than just words on a board. It’s about design, materials, placement, and personalization. Here’s how you can craft a stunning welcome sign that leaves a lasting impression. Step 1: Define Your Purpose and Theme Before you start designing your welcome sign, consider its purpose and the event or space it represents. Is it for a wedding, a corporate event, a retail store, or a cozy home entrance? The theme and atmosphere of the setting should influence your design choices. For weddings, it is a must! Wedding Welcome Signs For weddings, welcome signs often feature romantic fonts, floral designs, and Outside Wedding Venue located in Carroll County, Maryland elegant materials like acrylic or wood. The colors should complement the wedding’s theme, whether it’s rustic, modern, or classic. Wedding signs should convey warmth and hospitality. Step 2: Choose the Right Material The material of your welcome sign plays a significant role in its durability and aesthetics. Here are some popular options: Wood • Perfect for rustic, farmhouse, or vintage themes. • Can be painted, stained, or engraved. • Durable for both indoor and outdoor use. Acrylic • Sleek and modern, great for weddings and corporate events. • Can be transparent or colored, with vinyl lettering or hand-painted designs. Acrylics are not expensive either. • Works well with LED lighting for a luxurious effect. Chalkboard • Offers flexibility—you can change the message as needed. • Ideal for casual or whimsical events like outside, rustic weddings. Mirror • Creates a glamorous, elegant feel. • Works best for weddings. • Can be written on with calligraphy markers or vinyl lettering. Metal • Great for a modern or industrial look. • Durable for outdoor use. • Can be laser-cut with intricate designs. Step 3: Pick the Perfect Font and Lettering Style Barn Wedding Venue located near Baltimore Typography is crucial in making your welcome sign stand out. The right font will enhance readability and match the sign’s purpose. Elegant and Romantic Fonts • Best for weddings and formal events. • Script fonts like “Great Vibes” or “Madina Script” give a handwritten, luxurious feel. Handwritten or Chalkboard-Style Fonts • Great for casual and cozy settings. • Fonts like “Pacifico” or “Dancing Script” mimic natural handwriting for a friendly touch. If you’re using hand lettering, consider hiring a calligrapher or using stencils to ensure clean, professional results. Step 4: Incorporate Eye-Catching Design Elements A plain welcome sign can be functional, but adding artistic touches will make it truly stand out. Consider these design elements: Floral and Greenery Accents • Attach eucalyptus, roses, or pampas grass to the edges for a soft, inviting feel. • Use real or faux flowers to match your event’s color scheme. Frames and Stands • Use an easel for a formal, elegant look. • Hang the sign from a wooden or metal frame for added depth. Carroll County, Maryland Barn Wedding Venue Lights and Neon Accents • Fairy lights around the sign can create a magical ambiance. • Neon lettering is trendy for modern and industrial-themed events. Artwork and Illustrations • Minimalist line drawings, watercolor accents, or gold foil details can add an artistic flair. • Seasonal elements (snowflakes, autumn leaves, etc.) can make the sign more festive. Step 5: Ensure Proper Placement and Visibility Your welcome sign should be positioned where guests can see it easily upon arrival. Here’s how to place it for maximum impact: • For events: Place the sign at the entrance to the ceremony site or near the guest book table at the reception. Some couples repurpose their welcome sign. They use it at the ceremony and then move it to the reception. Ensure the sign is large enough to be readable from a distance, and consider lighting if the event is at night. Step 6: Personalize Your Welcome Sign A stunning welcome sign feels unique and special. Here are ways to personalize it: • Names and Dates: For weddings, include the couple’s names and the wedding date. • Quotes or Greetings: Add a warm message like “Welcome to Our Forever” or “So Glad You’re Here!” or “We’re so glad you are here.” • Custom Illustrations: Include a sketch of your house or your pet. Step 7: Capture It in Photos A beautifully crafted welcome sign is not just functional but also a great photo opportunity. Ensure it’s positioned in a way that complements event photos. • For weddings: Place it near floral backdrops or at the venue entrance for guests to take pictures with. Creating a stunning welcome sign is an art that combines design, functionality, and personal touches. Keeping the welcome sign simple, will help you decide to keep it for your home. By choosing the right material, typography, and decorative elements, you can make a sign that not only greets guests but also enhances the overall aesthetic of your event or home. Whether you’re crafting one yourself or hiring a professional, remember that a welcome sign is more than just an introduction. It’s the first impression, setting the stage for a memorable experience. But remember there is no right or wrong way to have your welcome sign designed or displayed. Just make it about your style. - What to Wear to a Barn or Outdoor Wedding in Westminster, Maryland
Montagu Meadows, a barn wedding venue located in Westminster, Maryland As the owner of Montagu Meadows, a barn wedding venue in Westminster, Maryland we love celebrating couples’ special day in style. Attending a barn or outdoor wedding in Westminster, MD, is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a beautiful rustic setting while celebrating a special occasion. It’s a chance to connect with nature. However, dressing for such an event requires a balance between elegance and practicality. Maryland weather can be unpredictable, and the outdoor terrain presents unique challenges, so it’s essential to choose an outfit that is both stylish, comfortable and meeting the couples dress code. Whether you’re a guest at Montagu Meadows or another scenic venue, here’s a guide to help you dress appropriately for the occasion. 1. First Thing First -Check the Dress Code on the Invitation Before deciding on an outfit, check the wedding invitation for any specific dress Country wedding venue located in Carroll County, Maryland code. Some barn weddings are semi-formal, while others lean toward dressy casual. The couple may specify attire such as “casual elegance,” “rustic chic,” or “country formal”—all of which indicate a polished yet relaxed look. Avoid overdressing unless specified (such as wearing a ballgown or a tuxedo) but also steer clear of being too casual (jeans and t-shirts are usually a no-go). And remember just because a wedding is taking place in a barn does not mean it’s a causal affair. 2. Dress for the Setting Barn weddings are unique in that they blend elegance with a rustic atmosphere. The venue may feature rolling fields, wooden barns, paver Comfortable attire at a Westminster, Maryland Barn Wedding Venue walkways, and grassy areas, so you’ll want to wear something that suits both the romantic and natural elements of the location. For a barn wedding, opt for: • Comfortable yet stylish attire that aligns with the venue’s ambiance. • Light, breathable fabrics in warmer months and layered outfits for cooler evenings. • Footwear that works on multiple surfaces, including grass, gravel, and wooden floors. 3. Consider Maryland Weather & Dress in Layers Maryland weather can fluctuate dramatically, even in a single day. A warm afternoon can quickly turn into a cool evening, so dressing in layers is a smart approach. • Spring & Fall Weddings: The weather can range from chilly to pleasantly warm. A light sweater, shawl, or blazer will keep you comfortable. Montagu Meadows offer heaters during the cooler weather and evaporator coolers when it is warm. • Summer Weddings: Lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, or chiffon will help you stay cool. • Evening Receptions: A light jacket or wrap is a good idea, as temperatures often drop after sunset. Always check the weather forecast before the event and bring an extra layer just in case. 4. Choose the Right Footwear The biggest mistake guests make at barn weddings is wearing the wrong shoes. Comfortable footware at a Maryland Barn Wedding Venue Since you’ll be walking on grass, gravel, and wooden barn floors, opt for shoes with a sturdy base and avoid stilettos or delicate heels that could sink into the ground. We also recommend bringing an extra set of shoes in case you are uncomfortable. Just leave them in your car in case you need them. Best Shoes for a Barn Wedding: • Women: Wedges, block heels, dressy boots, flats, or stylish sandals • Men: Loafers, dress shoes with a rubber sole, or boots Cowboy boots can be a stylish and practical choice, especially for a rustic wedding. Just make sure they are comfortable enough to wear all day! 5. For Men: • Dress pants or chinos with a button-down shirt or a nice polo. • A sport coat or lightweight blazer for a polished look. • A tie is optional unless the dress code calls for semi-formal attire. • Dress shoes or boots that can handle various surfaces. 6. What to Avoid • Super casual outfits – Avoid jeans, t-shirts, or sneakers unless the couple explicitly says it’s okay. • Spike heels – They’ll sink into the ground and make walking difficult. • Heavy, uncomfortable fabrics – Opt for breathable materials suited for outdoor wear. 7. Final Tips for Dressing Smart • Plan for movement. Barn weddings often include dancing, lawn games, and mingling outdoors. Make sure your outfit allows for ease of movement. • Keep it classy and practical. The goal is to look stylish without Dancing the night away in a Carroll County Barn Wedding Venue sacrificing comfort. • Consider bringing an extra pair of shoes. - How to Choose Your Wedding Party Without Drama — Navigating Relationships Peacefully in Baltimore, Maryland
Bridal Party Bonding in Westminster, Maryland Weddings are supposed to be fun, exciting, and memorable and not full of drama. As the owner of Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue, a barn event venue located in Westminster, Maryland, I love to see couples enjoy every step of the way in the wedding planning process. When it comes to planning your big day, few decisions feel as personal and potentially emotional as choosing your wedding party. These are the people who will stand beside you, hold your bouquet (and maybe your nerves), and cheer you on through every toast, photo, and dance move. But how do you build a wedding party that supports you without stirring up unnecessary drama? Here’s how to navigate the process with grace, intention, and peace. Why Choosing the Right People Matters Enjoy your wedding day in Carroll County, Maryland Your wedding party isn’t just a checklist item. It’s a reflection of your inner circle. These are the people you trust, who know your heart, and who will support you through one of the most significant days of your life. It’s important to think beyond titles. Ask yourself: • What is my relationship with this person like? • How do they get along with others? • Will they mesh well as a group? A harmonious wedding party helps set the tone for the entire day. If your chosen group gets along and communicates well, you’ll feel less stress and more joy throughout the journey. Positive energy is contagious. Envision Your Wedding Vibe The size and style of your wedding can help guide your decisions: • Small & Intimate Wedding: Fewer people in the party may make more Bridal Party in the Gardens in Westminster, Maryland sense. This can also help minimize stress and keep the focus on your closest relationships. • Casual & Laid-Back Wedding: Break the rules! You don’t need matching sides or traditional roles. Choose who you love and let go of formalities. • Formal & Traditional Wedding: A more structured wedding might call for a balanced number of attendants on each side, especially for the ceremony and photos. But remember no matter the style, what matters most is the connection and support you feel from your wedding party. Reflect on Key Relationships This is the time to take stock of who’s been there for you, not just who’s expected to be. Ask yourself: • Who has supported me through thick and thin? • Who do I feel comfortable being vulnerable around? Groom and Groomsman enjoying Time tTogether in the Orchard • Who adds joy to my life, not stress? Who brings out the best in me? If someone has a track record of stirring up drama, it’s okay to think twice. This day is about your happiness, not managing someone else’s personality. Consider Alternative Roles Not everyone has to be a bridesmaid or groomsman to play a meaningful role. If someone is important to you but doesn’t fit into the wedding party dynamic, consider: • Ceremony readings • Ushers • Personal attendants • Greeters • Speech givers • Getting ready crew without the title Outside wedding venue located in Carroll County, Maryland This can be a thoughtful way to honor a relationship without compromising your peace. Communicate Expectations Clearly Being part of a wedding party is a commitment—emotionally, financially, and logistically. Be upfront about: • What you’ll need from them (e.g., dress fittings, travel, planning help) • Any financial expectations (e.g., attire, trips, accommodations) • The level of involvement you’re hoping for Honest an upfront communication sets everyone up for success and minimizes resentment later. Don’t Let Guilt Be Your Guide This is your wedding, not a social obligation balancing act. You don’t owe anyone a spot in your party just because they were in yours, or because someone “expects it.” Tough choices may ruffle feathers, but they’re often necessary to preserve your emotional wellbeing. Make decisions from a place of peace, not pressure. Mixed-Gender Wedding Parties Are Totally Welcome Your “people” may not neatly fall along gender lines and that’s perfectly okay. Whether it’s a “man of honor,” a “bridesmate,” or a co-ed group of besties, modern weddings are all about authenticity. Let your group reflect who matters most, not just what tradition says. Factor in Availability Weddings require time. Consider how available your potential wedding party Vintage Bridal Suite in Westminster, Maryland members are: • Are they local or far away? • Do they have the time to help with planning and events? • Are they in a season of life where this commitment will feel like a burden? It’s not about cutting out busy friends but it’s about being realistic and kind to them and yourself. Everyone Won’t Get It and That’s Okay Not everyone will understand your choices. And not everyone has to. Your wedding is a celebration of your love, not a performance to please others including friends and family. Choosing a wedding party that feels right to you sets the foundation for a peaceful and joy-filled celebration. It’s about you and your partner. - Balancing Work, Wedding Planning, and Summer Travel: A Guide to Staying Sane and Savoring the Season in Westminster, Maryland
Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue located in Westminster, Maryland Hi this is Christina, the owner of Montagu Meadows, a barn wedding venue located in Westminster, Maryland. I have helped hundreds of couples with their weddings by giving them helpful tips throughout the wedding planning process. I am also a certified counselor, and my counseling skills come in handy through this process. So how do you survive planning your wedding while working full-time and juggling summer getaways? You’re not alone and you’re not crazy. It’s a lot, but with a little strategy and a lot of grace for yourself, you can enjoy the engagement season without burning out. Here’s how to stay balanced while preparing for your special day and enjoying the summer life: 1. Prioritize and Organize Remember you are just one person, not a full event production team. Identify what aspects of your wedding matter most to you - maybe it’s the music, the Engagement photos on the farm in Carroll County, Maryland flowers, or the guest experience. Create a detailed timeline and don’t panic if you miss a deadline. It’s a plan, and plans are meant to be changed. Be kind to yourself and have fun through this process. You are marrying the love of life so enjoy! 2. Use Digital Tools to Stay on Track Spreadsheets, shared calendars, planning apps - this is your time to lean into digital organization. Tools like Google Drive, Trello, or wedding-specific apps can help you manage guest lists, appointments, budgets, and timelines without letting anything fall through the cracks. You can even set up your guest RSVP’s and table assignments in these apps. 3. Tackle the Tough Stuff First You know that one wedding task you’re dreading? Do that one first. Get it out of the way. It clears mental space and gives you momentum for everything else. 4. Delegate and Seek Support You don’t have to do this alone. Friends and family want to help and they love being involved. Assign tasks like assembling invitations, researching vendors, or planning the bridal shower. You’ll feel lighter, and they’ll feel honored to contribute. 5. Hire a Wedding Coordinator or Planner At Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue we require that you hire a wedding coordinator. Think of them as your behind-the-scenes fairy godmother. Westminster, Maryland Wedding Coordinator are always prepared! Whether you hire full-service help or just someone for day-of coordination, a planner can save you time, stress, and even money by keeping you organized and alerting you to things you didn’t even know you needed. You get to enjoy being the bride, groom, mother of the bride, etc… 6. Plan Around Summer Travel Taking time off? Good you need it a break from work and wedding planning. Use your vacation as a chance to reset. But be intentional: schedule virtual or in-person vendor meetings before your trip so you’re not scrambling. That way, when you’re on vacation, you can actually be present and have fun as a couple along with family and friends. 7. Keep Communication Flowing Check in regularly with your partner. Talk about what’s working, what’s overwhelming, and when you both need to hit pause and don’t forget to tell them you love them. Set boundaries around the wedding talk. Maybe one day a week is wedding-free, or Sundays are for date nights with zero planning. 8. Don’t Neglect Self-Care Wedding planning is just one part of your life. Make room for wellness: • Take a hike • Swim or take a boat ride • Attend a yoga class • Try an art class • Read a book • Plan a spontaneous dinner Designate wedding-free nights where you can just be. Not everything has to be about your wedding. You’re still a whole person with a life beyond the big day and I always believe in positive self-talk. You can do this. 9. Use Your Personal or Vacation Days This is the time to prioritize your personal goals. Whether you use a day to Winter Engagement Photos in Carroll County, Maryland meet with vendors or to just chill and catch up on life, taking time off isn’t selfish. It’s the smart thing to do and this is part of self care. 10. Stay Flexible Even the most organized plans hit snags. It might rain on your engagement photos or your dream florist might get booked. You need to able to adapt, breathe, and pivot. Your mindset matters more than your minute-by-minute schedule. 11. Don’t Forget the Joy Through all the timelines, tasks, and to-do lists, keep your eyes on the real prize: you’re getting married. Soak up the magic of this season. Laugh with your partner. Make memories. Celebrate the small wins. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and make it meaningful. You want to be able think about how happy and in love you were during this wedding planning process. Balancing it all isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. - The Story Behind Montagu Meadows, a Barn Wedding Venue in Westminster, Maryland: A Legacy of Love, Service, and Community
Montagu Hankin on the Westminster, Maryland farm When couples choose Montagu Meadows, a barn wedding venue located in Carroll County, MD for their wedding, they are stepping into a place filled with history, love, heart, and a deep sense of legacy. Owners Rob and Christina Krone didn’t just create a wedding venue—they preserved a story, one that began with a remarkable man named Montagu “Monty” Hankin. Honoring Montagu Hankin Montagu Meadows is named after Montagu Hankin, a World War II veteran, community leader, and passionate golfer. Monty and his wife, Marcia, purchased the property in 1983, making it their home in Westminster, Maryland. Monty was a father, grandfather and great grandfather before he passed in April 2020. He was an active member of the Carroll County community, lending his voice to the Carroll County Singers and finding joy on the golf courses at Wakefield Valley and Quayle Valley, often perfecting his swing at Island Green. He was also known to support several charitable organizations throughout the country. Monty at Montagu Meadows wedding venue in Carroll County, Maryland Monty and Marcia purchased the property in 1983 from the Phillipes, The Phillipes loved to landscape and added Japanese gardens and red wood trees. They even renovated the old farmhouse. After Monty and Marcia purchased the property from the Phillipes, Monty worked hard clearing the meadows so horses could graze the fields. His daughter Alex and daughter in law, Meg kept their horses on the property along with a few friends like the Kirk family. A beautiful pond was later added by Alex Krone who designed it, and Monty added the inground pool for his wife and others to enjoy in the summer. This was paradise for Monty and his family. But Monty’s story began long before his time in Westminster. He was a proud graduate of Amherst College, and during WWII, he served with courage and resilience. In December 1944, Monty was aboard the USS Reid during a resupply mission into Leyte Gulf when the ship was tragically attacked by Japanese kamikaze pilots. Against all odds, Monty survived the sinking, a moment that would shape the rest of his life. Monty in the service A Wedding Venue Built on History When Rob and Christina Krone took ownership of the property, they wanted to honor Monty’s incredible life and the love he and Marcia shared. They transformed the land into Montagu Meadows, a wedding venue where couples could begin their own journeys surrounded by the beauty and history of a place that meant so much to Monty. Rob Krone structurally renovated the barn and Christina added her vision to the design of the barn and summer kitchen which became the bridal suite. Her love for antiques, shabby chic decor, and flower gardens are evident everywhere on the farm. The barn, the suites, the meadows, and the serene landscape all hold echoes of the past while embracing the joy of new beginnings. Every wedding at Montagu Meadows is not just a celebration of love but a continuation of the legacy that Monty left behind—one of resilience, passion, and deep connection to community. Together Rob and Christina have five children. Of the five, four have chosen to be married on the property with each child adding to the charm of the 1800’s barn. One of their son's and his wife help to maintain the property and help on wedding days. Their daughter in law has also started a wedding planning business called Best Day Events as the family tradition continues. More Than a Venue—A Tribute Monty Hankin the man behind Montagu Meadows Montagu Meadows isn’t just a place to get married; it’s a venue that tells a story. Whether it’s through a quiet moment in the fields, a laugh shared under the barn’s wooden beams, or a dance beneath the stars, Monty’s spirit lives on in the celebrations held here. Before Monty’s death, several brides were able to experience Monty’s charm. He enjoyed meeting all the couples and watching the couples fall in love with the property just as much as he had. Every couple brought a smile to his face. One couple even named their golden retriever Monty. By choosing Montagu Meadows, couples become part of something greater—a story of love, history, and a man who made an impact on everyone who knew him. Montagu’s legacy lives on through every couple who gets married at Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue. - Eight Tips on How to Stay Organized While Planning a Wedding in Westminster, Maryland
Wedding Planner As the owner of a barn wedding venue located in Carroll County, MD, I always encourage couples to come up with a system to organize their wedding. Staying organized will allow you time to focus on what truly matters, enjoying your wedding with your family and good friends. Planning a wedding is not only on the most exciting times of your life but it can be potentially overwhelming. With countless details to manage, deadlines to meet, and emotions running high, staying organized is key to enjoying the process and ensuring your big day runs smoothly. Whether you’re working with a planner or managing everything yourself, this blog will provide you with some practical tips to help you stay on top of your wedding to-do list and keep stress to a minimum. 1. Start With a Master Checklist Sample Wedding Checklist Before you book a single vendor or try on a dress, start by creating a comprehensive wedding checklist. This should include everything, from setting a budget, choosing a date, creating a guest list and deciding on your vision for your wedding. Your checklist will serve as your wedding planning roadmap, giving you guidance of what needs to be done and when. There are plenty of wedding planning books and websites that offer free checklists but be sure to customize yours to fit your needs. Not every wedding requires the same elements, so edit accordingly to reflect your priorities. 2. Use a Wedding Planning Binder or Digital Tool Some people love the feeling of a tangible binder with printed vendor contracts, inspirational photos, and checklists. Others prefer the flexibility and convenience of digital planning tools like Aisle Planner or Google Drive. Choose the system that best fits your style and stick with it. Digital tools have the advantage of being shareable, searchable, and easily updated. Create folders for each major category (e.g., Venue, Vendors, Dress, Budget, Guest List) and keep all your documents and notes organized in one place. Building a wedding website is another way to stay organized and inform your guests about the details of your wedding. Include your registry to help you keep track of the gifts easily. 3. Establish a Realistic Budget Early On Money can be one of the biggest stressors in wedding planning if it’s not managed carefully. Sit down early in the process with your partner (and any family members who are contributing financially) to establish a realistic budget. Then, break it down by category: venue, catering, attire, photography, flowers, entertainment, etc. Use a spreadsheet or budgeting app to track deposits, payments, and remaining balances and the dates they are due. Staying on top of your finances not only keeps your wedding planning organized but also avoids costly surprises down the road. I always advise budgeting for miscellaneous items. 4. Set Milestones and Deadlines Breaking your to-do list into smaller, time-bound tasks makes wedding planning much more manageable. Assign target dates for major tasks: booking vendors nine to twelve months out, sending invitations twelve to fourteen weeks before the wedding, scheduling dress fittings, and finalizing the seating chart. If you’re using a digital calendar, set reminders a few days before each deadline to give yourself time to act without feeling rushed. Small, consistent steps will keep you on track without the panic of last-minute scrambling. 5. Designate One Place for Communication Wedding planning often involves emailing multiple vendors, group chats with your bridal party, and conversations with family members. To avoid losing track of important information, designate one place where all wedding-related communication is centralized. Create a dedicated email address for your wedding (e.g., emmaandjasonwedding@gmail.com ) so that you can keep all correspondence in one inbox. You can also use messaging platforms like Slack or group texts for specific teams like your bridesmaids or planning committee, so nothing gets lost in the shuffle. 6. Keep a Detailed Guest List Managing your guest list is more than just counting RSVPs. It also includes tracking meal preferences, contact info, thank-you notes, and seating assignments. A spreadsheet is your best friend here or use your wedding website to track the RSVPs. Include columns for names, addresses, RSVP status, number of guests, and any special notes (e.g., “allergic to shellfish,” “bringing baby”). Keeping this up to date will save you a lot of stress, especially as the wedding date approaches. 7. Don’t Be Afraid to Delegate Even the most organized bride or groom can’t do everything alone. Enlist trusted friends like your bridal party and family to help with tasks like addressing envelopes, picking up decor, or wrangling the flower girl. I strongly recommend a wedding planner or day-of coordinator. This is a vendor you can lean on to manage logistics and problem-solve behind the scenes. Remember, people want to help. They just need clear direction and do not want to overstep your boundaries. Delegating not only lightens your load but also helps your loved ones feel more connected to your big day. 8. Take Breaks and Celebrate Milestones Wedding planning shouldn’t consume your entire life. Schedule non-wedding- A barn wedding venue located in Carroll County, Maryland related dates with your partner, take breaks when you’re feeling burnt out, and celebrate small milestones along the way. Finished your invitations? Treat yourself to a favorite dinner. Found the perfect dress? Watch a movie with friends. Staying organized is as much about preserving your emotional well-being as it is about crossing tasks off a list. Your wedding day is meant to be a joyful celebration of love not a chaotic production with lots of stress. By staying organized, getting an early start, setting clear goals, and embracing help from others, you’ll not only plan a beautiful event but also enjoy the journey leading to it. Take a deep breath, trust your plan, and savor each step of the process. You’ve got this and your vendors do too. If you’re looking for a more private moment, plan a surprise sailboat ride. Many local companies offer private charters that can be tailored to your special occasion. Imagine popping the question as the sun sets over the bay, with the peaceful sound of waves in the background. It’s a moment that neither of you will ever forget. St. Michaels also offers beautiful waterfront views and picturesque harbor. There are several high-quality hotels, inns, seafood restaurants, wineries, and locally owned gift shops. Say “I Do” overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. 2. A Rustic Barn Proposal Montagu Meadows, a Maryland Barn Wedding Venue For a warm and intimate proposal, consider booking a visit to a barn wedding venue. Maryland is home to many beautiful barns, including Montagu Meadows in Carroll County. These rustic settings can be transformed into enchanting spaces with twinkling fairy lights, candles, flowers and amazing country views. Plan a special Valentine’s Day picnic inside the barn or under the stars on the venue’s grounds. Arrange for a photographer to capture the moment when you pop the question. To make it extra personal, incorporate elements of your relationship into the setup. Perhaps photos of your favorite memories or your partner’s favorite flowers or candies. A barn proposal is not only romantic but also symbolic, as it hints at the next step: your wedding day. 3. A Romantic Mountain Overlook If your partner loves the great outdoors, Maryland’s scenic overlooks provide a breathtaking backdrop for your proposal even in the winter. Popular spots like Sugarloaf Mountain , Catoctin Mountain Park , or the overlook at Cunningham Falls State Park offer sweeping views and serene settings. Plan a day hike or a leisurely walk to the overlook and bring a picnic with you. Once you reach the perfect spot, surprise your partner with a heartfelt proposal with the mountains in the backdrop. For added romance, time it with the sunrise or sunset. If Valentine’s Day is chilly, pack a cozy blanket and a thermos of hot chocolate to keep warm while you celebrate your engagement. 4. A Winery or Brewery Proposal Maryland is home to some fantastic wineries and breweries that can set the stage for an unforgettable proposal. Venues like Westminster Winery or Boordy Vineyards in Hydes offer scenic views, delicious drinks, and intimate atmospheres perfect for the occasion. Plan a Valentine’s Day wine tasting or brewery tour, and coordinate with the staff ahead of time for a surprise. You could have the ring presented during a special toast or on a custom wine bottle labeled with “Will You Marry Me?” Many wineries and breweries have cozy seating areas by fireplaces, adding a warm and romantic vibe to your proposal. 5. A Surprise in Baltimore For couples who love the city vibe, Baltimore has plenty of romantic spots to make your proposal unforgettable. Start the evening with a Valentine’s Day dinner at a fine dining restaurant like Charleston , The Capital Grille , or Tagliata . After dinner, head to the Inner Harbor for a quiet moment by the water. You can also plan a proposal with a view by visiting Federal Hill Park or booking a private rooftop space overlooking the Baltimore skyline. For something truly unique, consider taking your partner on a Valentine’s Day helicopter tour of the city, ending with a proposal high above the glittering lights. Wedding Engagement Pictures with the dogs Making the Proposal Personal No matter where you choose to pop the question, the key to a perfect proposal is making it personal. Think about what your partner loves most or think about your first date. Whether it’s nature, cozy settings, or lively cityscapes, tailor the experience to their preferences. Incorporate meaningful touches, like their favorite flowers, a playlist of your favorite songs, or a handwritten note expressing your love, excitement for the future and a beautiful ring. If you want to capture the moment forever, consider hiring a photographer, content creator or videographer to document the proposal. Maryland has many talented professionals who specialize in engagement photography and can help you preserve this special day. Valentine’s Day proposals are romantic, but Maryland’s diverse landscapes and venues make them even more magical. Whether you choose the scenic waterfront of Annapolis or St Michaels, the rustic charm of a barn venue like Montagu Meadows, located in Westminster, MD, the tranquility of a mountain overlook, the sophistication of a winery, or the vibrant energy of Baltimore, your proposal will be a day to remember. Take the time to plan the details and create a moment that reflects your love story. After all, this is just the beginning of your next chapter together. With these ideas, you’re sure to sweep your partner off their feet and start your engagement on a truly unforgettable note. Remember Valentine’s Day is designed to celebrate love and what better way to do this is to get engaged. Dancing outside the barn Looking for a stunning barn venue in Maryland? - A Family-Focused Summer Wedding: Megan & Gabe Say “I Do” in Westminster, Maryland
Water Views at a Maryland Barn Wedding Venue Today’s blog is about the summer wedding of Megan and Gabe. The first meeting with Megan and Gabe, it was immediately clear what matters most to them: family, close friends, and sharing life’s milestones with the people who mean everything. Family plays a crucial role in shaping individuals, and you can tell the impact their families had on Emily and Gabe. Montagu Meadows, a barn wedding venue located in Carroll County, Maryland boasts a history of cherishing family. In fact, the venue was named after Montagu Hankin, a WW II veteran who happened to be a loved and respected family member. Having Megan and Gabe’s June wedding at Montagu Meadows just reminded the owners why Montagu Meadows Wedding Venue was created. This wedding was a joyful celebration of love, unity, and togetherness. A Perfect Start: Wedding Rehearsal & Wedding Decor Megan and Gabe kicked off their wedding weekend on Friday, June 20 with a relaxed and laughter-filled rehearsal. Best Day Events by Lauren led the run-through and then stuck around to help decorate the barn with elegant touches that reflected the couple’s style. The burnt orange and dark green color palette Megan and her flower girls at a Westminster, Maryland Wedding Venue set the tone, which was warm, earthy, and deeply romantic. Megan added her own flair by bringing in amber and dark green table runners, and borrowing Montagu Meadows’ marble and gold dessert stands, geometric candle holders with tall taper LED candles plus the gold mirror welcome sign that Lauren from Best Day Events personalized with their names and wedding date. The greenery for the reception tables arrived Saturday morning, artfully arranged by Above and Beyond Weddings , whose team also created the vibrant, multi-colored floral installation on the ceremony arbor. The entire space glowed with soft, natural elegance. Wedding Morning: Beauty, Fun & Family On the big day, Megan and her bridal party arrived at 9 a.m. to settle into the bridal suite which is a restored summer kitchen from the 1800s and transformed by Montagu Meadows owners Christina and Rob into a shabby-chic hideaway. Airbrush Faces from Frederick, Maryland provided hair and makeup, helping everyone look and feel their best. Meanwhile, the guys rolled in a bit later for a morning of games which included pool, foosball, and good conversation before getting ready. Wedding Dress was purchased at Love It Stella's in Westminster, Maryland Megan looked absolutely stunning in her gown, “Ann” from the Legacy Collection at Love It At Stella’s . Her wedding veils details showcase her gorgeous dress. Megan also purchased a reception dress which provided her with a shorter, light weight alternative to dance the night away. Her bridesmaids wore an array of warm, rich tones (beige, amber, green, and burgundy from Azazie ), while the groomsmen wore camel-colored vests and bolo ties sourced from Amazon. Gabe stood out in a slightly darker vest, a subtle but stylish touch. A Ceremony in the Orchard Megan and Gabe’s ceremony took place beneath the tall nut trees located on top of one of the rolling hills at Montagu Meadows, a barn wedding venue located in Carroll County, Maryland. The natural canopy of trees offered a cool and peaceful space for their vows, made even more beautiful by the wooden arch adorned with florals from Above and Megan and Gabe having fun with their wedding party in Carroll County, MD Beyond Weddings. The couple’s nieces and nephews filled the wedding party, each one a special part of their love story. Southern Flavors & Sweet Treats Mission BBQ of Westminster brought the flavor with a hearty spread of appetizers and BBQ favorites for dinner. Their top-notch service and crowd-pleasing menu helped keep guests happy and full throughout the night. Myx It Up bartending was also on-site, serving signature cocktails and mocktails with flair. With temperatures near 90 degrees, their hydration station were a big hit. And thanks to Montagu Meadows’ evaporative coolers and fans, guests stayed comfortable dancing the night away in and outside the barn. Dessert came courtesy of Stonehouse Cakery and Café , who outdid themselves with a mix of cupcakes, black bottom cheesecakes, chocolate cake pops, and a gorgeous wedding cake. Everything was delicious! Capturing Every Moment Outside Wedding Ceremony in the orchard in Westminster, Maryland Frozen In Time Photography was there to capture every meaningful moment from Megan’s emotional first look with her dad and brothers to candid shots on the dance floor. And of course, DJ Burnside (Corey) kept the energy high all night long. There was never a dull moment when he’s behind the booth at Montagu Meadows. A Love That Spanned States Megan and Gabe’s love story began on June 29, 2018, at a casual get-together while visiting her cousin. Megan, who lived in North Carolina at the time, connected instantly with Gabe over goats. Who doesn’t love a cute goat. That led to a first date on July 20, and by December, Gabe moved to South Carolina to be closer to Megan as she finished nursing school. Their relationship continued to flourish, eventually bringing them back to Maryland to build a life together. Bridal Portrait by Frozen In Time Photography A Proposal to Remember On May 9, 2024, what seemed like an ordinary morning quickly became unforgettable. As Megan got ready for work, Gabe brought her out onto their newly paved patio. This was a renovation that meant a lot to them. While talking about the future, Gabe got down on one knee. When Megan turned around, he popped the question with her mom there to witness the moment. The date was already significant: two years earlier, on May 9, 2022, they had moved from South Carolina to Maryland. And just a year before the proposal, they closed on their first home on May 8, 2023. Montagu Meadows a barn wedding venue located northwest of Baltimore City. A Day Filled With Meaning Every element of Megan and Gabe’s wedding reflected their shared values and deep connection with family, intentional moments, and the beauty of growing together.
